Medical Card Holders
Free eye exam is available only with pre-approval from the HSE. This requires a green form, stamped and signed by your local Health Office. Forms are available from our reception.
If you attend without a green form, you may pay the private consultation fee. We will issue you a signed form so you can later use towards a review appointment.
Sunday appointments are not covered under the Medical Card scheme due to HSE funding limits. Medical Card patients are welcome on Sundays, but standard private fees apply.
Missed appointments (DNA): if you do not attend a scheduled exam, a refundable €50 deposit will be required to secure future bookings.
Full Eye Exam
Free if you have a stamped green form that you have sent to your HSE Local Health Office. This takes a few days usually. Forms are available from our reception.
Free of charge for Medical Card holders with a signed and stamped HSE green form (pre-approval required from your Local Health Office). During this consultation, a consultant ophthalmologist will carry out a full medical eye examination including:
Vision assessment
Slit lamp exam (front of the eye)
Eye pressure check (for glaucoma)
Dilated retinal exam (back of the eye)

Follow-up/ Review
Free with a stamped green form (within 6 weeks of your last appointment). This review is used to:
Check your response to treatment
Monitor ongoing eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, or retinal disease
Adjust or confirm your management plan
If no green form is available, the standard private fee applies.

OCT Scan
A non-invasive retinal scan using the Topcon Swept Source OCT. This technology creates high-resolution cross-sectional images of the retina to:
Detect early signs of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma
Monitor disease progression over time
Currently, this advanced test is not covered by the HSE Medical Card.

OCT Scan + Angiography/ Anterior Segment Imaging
An extended imaging package that includes OCT scans plus:
OCT Angiography (OCTA): shows detailed blood flow patterns in the retina for early detection of vascular eye disease
Anterior segment imaging: high-definition scans of the front of the eye (cornea, lens, and anterior chamber)
This advanced package is used to diagnose and monitor complex conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and corneal disorders.
Currently not covered by the HSE Medical Card.

HFA 3 Visual Field Test
Performed with the ZEISS Humphrey Field Analyzer 3, the gold standard test for assessing peripheral (side) vision. This test is essential for:
Detecting and monitoring glaucoma
Identifying optic nerve problems
Screening for neurological conditions affecting vision
The test maps out your field of vision and helps in tracking changes over time.
Currently not covered under the HSE Medical Card.
